Professional Standards Policy Changes Effective Monday, April 1
28 Mar 2019 -
The first change is that all parties to arbitration requests filed starting April 1, 2019, will be required to attempt mediation through the Georgia REALTORS® Professional Standards process. Should the parties be unable to resolve the dispute through mediation, then the parties will go before an arbitration panel to have the dispute heard.  Prior to April 1, 2019, attempting mediation prior to going before an arbitration panel was an optional step in the process. After April 1, 2019, mediation will be a required part of the arbitration filing process.

The second change is to the Code of Ethics enforcement process. The Code of Ethics enforcement process will now allow for the Grievance Panel to issue citations for certain alleged unethical conduct. If a REALTOR® is on the receiving end of a citation, then the REALTOR® will have two options. First, the REALTOR® can reject the citation, file a response, and go to hearing just as s/he would under the current process. Or the REALTOR® can accept the citation by paying the $150 fine and taking a Code of Ethics class within a certain period of time.

Not all actions that potentially violate the Code of Ethics will be citable. You can review the list of citable offenses HERE. You can read the new Citation Policy in its entirety HERE.

If there are any questions about either of these policy changes, please contact Christina Chow, Director of Legal Affairs and Professional Standards Administrator at
