Governmental Affairs

Legislative Activities
The Georgia Association of REALTORS® formed the State and Local Governmental Affairs Committee to determine the public policy positions that will best protect private property rights and the free enterprise system. GAR has one of the best track records of producing progressive and protective legislation in the Georgia General Assembly. Your membership dues provide two lobbyists who work full time on behalf of the industry to secure tax relief, landowner beneficial land-use legislation, appropriate continuing education requirements and to discourage further encroachments on the rights of property owners by governmental agencies.

GARPAC
The Georgia Association of REALTORS® Political Action Committee (GARPAC) joins together the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) and REALTORS® Issues Action Committee (RIAC) under one fund-raising umbrella.

RPAC is organized and operated exclusively for the purpose of collecting political contributions and making expenditures of such funds to further candidacy of individuals for the nomination or election to legislative and executive offices of the state of Georgia, counties and municipalities, and the assist the National Association of REALTORS® Political Action Committee.

RIAC is organized and operated primarily for the purpose of collecting contributions to support or oppose state and local issues that impact real property in Georgia. RIAC supports grassroots lobbying and educational efforts related hereto.

License Law
Another important function of the State and Local Governmental Affairs Committee is the examination and review of the state license procedures, laws, rules and regulations, and the recommendation of changes which are beneficial to the profession. GAR works closely with the Georgia Real Estate Commission in this area.

Legislative Information
The Association provides to members information concerning legislative matters including copies of bills, bill analyses and assistance on public policy. During the weeks that the Georgia General Assembly is in session, legislative bulletins are available to members online at www.garealtor.com.
