GAR Disaster Relief Fund

Purpose

The Georgia Association of REALTORS®’ (GAR) Disaster Relief Fund is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that was established to assist REALTORS® across Georgia and the United States who have lost their home, their office, their ability to pay for their home and/or their livelihood through a natural disaster or other catastrophic event. In 2009, over $39,000 was distributed to REALTORS® across the state to assist them with damage incurred to their homes from the historic flooding that affected many areas of the state.

History

The GAR Disaster Relief Fund has already contributed to several of the Association members (REALTORS® and Affiliates) that suffered catastrophic occurrences that left them with a financial burden. Amount of assistance varies. Some of the areas of assistance include:

  • Financial assistance for families who lost a breadwinner in the September 11 attacks
  • Financial assistance for homes to be re-built in Lousiana, Texas, Florida, Mississippi, and Alabama in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita
  • Financial assistance for REALTORS® in west and southwest Georgia affected by tornadoes in Spring 2006
